Super Sandy Sunday 8 August 2010

Rob led a huge turnout up onto the dunes for some excellent fun and adventures - Notably we had Dave (new member, in his white-van-powered-diesel 110) and his guest in a spanky new RR Sport plus, Andy in "Yellow Peril", his newly VINned, ex-UK SIIA.

An end of the day photo - but a good impression.

There were loads of bodies piled into the trucks which made the whole day a truly social event.

At the start - Wilson's Road

Brian Smith is his V8 110 had a minor fan issue early on but made it through so he could cpature some good shots for us

The weather chaos was minor with only a few showers to send us dashing for cover...

The notorious "Devil's Punchbowl" - a seemingly innocuous 500m run up a sandy dune. However it proved too hard for most of us with excuses like "it was too cut up" and "the sand is too, errmmm sandy..."

Here, Neil in "The Barge" (200 Tiddley Eye 2 door) proves that letting all the smoke out is not a good idea.

We took the long way round the THE BIG DUNE", through the usually wet but not too deep tracks near the B range. However, some sections were "ouch! my bonnet went under" deep.

Here's someone just about to find out how deep the track really was...

This gives you a good idea of just how much wetness was lingering up there...

And then of course, THE BIG DUNE..

Here's the RR Sport beautifully grading the top off the track with his spoiler! Joking aside, the Sport and its driver did very very well on their first 'real' outing, even on those rubber band tyres!

A lovely long shot of THE BIG DUNE.

Last but not least we have announce a new contender for the 'not the right way up' trophy...

Andy hadn't quite planned on not being able to negotiate a tight turn-around on a narrow track!

A famous comment at the time was "So, Mr WOF-man - check my chassis for rust..."

Thanks to Rob Parker for organising a great day.
