LAHAR FARM - directions and how/what/when/why/where
From the north, on state highway 4, pass the BP service station at National Park. Do Not turn off toward the Chateau. Continue south for 21kms from the BP station. Look for the sign on your left HOROPITO VINTAGE VEHICLES & MUSEUM.
This road is Matapuna Rd, turn left here.
Stop at the railway Crossing – be warned – no bells or lights or barriers! This is the main trunk line.
Proceed across the railway line, veer left, and through the
Look for the Lahar Farm sign on the right, turn into the farm entrance.
Proceed past the tractor shed on your right, across the bridge, follow the farm track and veer right toward a gate. Open the gate, Please close this gate behind you. You will see the Lahar Farm Log cabin in front of you. This is our meeting point. Welcome! Come in for a cup of tea and a warm by the fire.
We can arrive on site at the farm, any time on Friday. The adjacent cabins are not ours until
Accommodation for the weekend is in three cabins, all very close to our off road venue. One cabin is on the farm, this is our HQ for the weekend. One cabin is next door, and the cottage is next door again.
We will sort out who goes where when you arrive. Please be prepared to share facilities, we will keep all parties and families together.
All cabins are extremely comfortable and warm, nice kitchens & bathrooms, beds or bunks, and fireplaces!
At the moment, we have about 30 people staying on site, a few staying locally in own arranged accommodation, and about 15 vehicles, so it will be a busy weekend!
We have asked for snow, it may happen, could be fun.
Costs.
Since this time we are bang in the middle of the ski season, we have to pay higher costs for our accommodation than in previous low season visits.
The prices for the three cabins are all different, so in the interest of keeping things simple, we are levying a flat per person rate.
The per person rate for the two nights on site accommodation will be $52.00
The guided 4WDing costs are $50.00 per vehicle, for this we get access on the Saturday, and Sunday if we wish, with the Land Owners Brent & Noeline Bishop providing excellent guide services, interesting commentary and guaranteed challenges for all.
Please pay on the weekend, cash preferred, Pay Stuart and ensure He ticks you off the list!
WHAT TO BRING
Friday night dinner – self catering – your choice, cook it when you get there, stop for a meal on the way down, BBQ available at all three cabins. Ohakune is only 15mins away, lots of restaurants & bars, but will probably be busy!
Saturday Morning breakfast – self cater again. All kitchen facilities available.
Lunch for Saturday & Sunday.
Snacks for morning tea breaks on the tracks & trails.
Refreshments for fri/sat night if you wish.
Saturday Night Dinner. Shared BBQ Meal. Bring meat for your family or group, and a salad or dessert to share with the group.
Sunday Breakfast. Shared Bacon Eggs Beans & Toast meal. Please bring sufficient for your group & we will cook it all together

Full vehicle recovery Kit
Mud Tyres are best, good AT tyres will suffice.
Road tyres have been around the farm before, so if you really want a challenge……….
Sleeping Bag & Pillow slip & towel.
